Do you know how big of a role does football play in Italian men's life ?

That big:

- our 6 m high TV antenna -

I am filing this post under the label "Now I have to live with this". BUT I am NOT going to live with this. Either out neighbour is going to sue us, or I am going to buy a metall sew ! - was my first reaction.

I wrote a post and saved it as draft, because I cannot publish something I am too emotional about.
So I slept over it - one night - two nights ... now it has been almost four weeks. It kept me from writing about other nicer things a lot. But now, this thing needs to be introduced.

My husband explained to me, that the antenna needs to be six meters high because of the mountains behind Pizzo, and in order to capture some channels that he would not get otherwise - some football channels.

Got it?
Italian men's first priority in life: FOOTBALL.
Italian men's sense for aestetic, that is very high, comes after football.

It seems that I am the only one in the family who disapproves this ugly monster antenna.
Italian women probably are used to this technical support for their husband's hobby.

Even my little half-Italian son seems to not understand me.
He said about the photo : "Wow! How cool! Looks like a space station's antenna !"
(He is 6 years old)

Well, I hope it must be possible somehow to move that thing to the left (close to the wall of the house). If one sets a foot on the terracce it should not be the first thing to see. It needs to move. I will keep you posted.

update: it was possible to move all to the left! :-)

  1. OMG .... could it go on the roof in the back... away from the view???? My husband, bless his heart, has no use for sports, but he has 30 feet of vinyl albums...which now seems so harmless...I can close the door. you have my sympathy.

You are a saint. I would have thrown a hissy fit...and it would be on the roof. If not, looks like a good start for a bougainvilla.

  4. Thanks for your comments!
    It makes me feel better.

They have installed the thing after I have left Italy. So, I saw only this photo. I am sure it looks even worse in reality.

    I am not a saint:
I have been loosing my temper via skype and mail. - And I was not able to post about it for 1 months.... but now, it feels just like a big JOKE.

  5. I wonder why it did not go on the roof, just too easy for it go on the terrace I suspect! If you can not get it moved then climbing plants are definitely the answer. Meanwhile stay calm :)

  6. This was the original place of the old antenna, that was very small and low-key.

I think, even CC did not expect what our electicians are going to mount.

If we move the antenna (and we will!) we have the option to have the cables run on-wall or in-wall. I do not mind on-wall as this is quicker, cheaper than in-wall and more aesthetic and easier to hide than the antenna itself.

  7. My Italian OH is not a football fan...thank goodness. Ironically, though, we still have a huge old antenna attached to the roof that the family used just for getting any kind of TV (we have a satellite dish). I've been bugging P to get that down for almost a year now....

  8. Could you put a lovely pot with vines to hide it? At least it is sleek. Your terrace is beautiful!!

  9. Update:
We moved the antenna already a while ago.
BUT now, we have the perfect solution, that would have solved the problem even without moving the whole thing!!

See my post: A New Pergola
